EU awards Energy Projects in Europe
The winners of the „European Sustainable Energy Awards“ are flagship projects of sustainability. Now the awards are going to new projects in Europe.
Kisielice made it. The small town in the north of Poland is running completely on renewable energy. In few years it replaced it’s dependency on oil or gas imports with energy of it’s own wind turbines and biogas plant. The city of 2,300 people, which is now Poland’s pioneer of renewable energy generation, was therefor credited overall winner of the “EU Sustainable Energy Europe Awards 2014“. Organize the Event in your town
The awards are highlighting of the “European Sustainable Energy Week” from 15th – 19th of June 2015. Events regarding sustainability are taking place in Brussels and various cities in whole Europe. Where exactly they will take place depends on where voluntary “Energy Day Organizers” arrange them. Last year about 650 of these Energy Days where taking place in parts of all EU member states. The events with various subjects where organized by Cities, Communities, Companies, Universities or interested EU-citizens. The german city Hannover, for example, organized a car-free sunday. First awards for projects on local level
This year the EU is awarding projects in the categories “Renewable Energy”, “Energy Efficiency” and – for the first time – also especially projects on a local level. Basically everybody can participate, who is realizing or just realized a project which matches the Horizon 2020-goals for energy efficiency (see precise requirements). But: It has to be “hands on”. Theoretical work is – in accordance to Horizon 2020 – not benefited. Applications must be in english. Registration is open until the 28th of February.
Platform for sustainable industry
The event is also used by various supporters of renewable energy for commercial and attention purposes. The European Wind Association, EWA, and the Global Wind Council, GWEC, have made this enjoyable video to promote “Wind Day”, 15th of June:
